I'm an intuitive artist. So I try not to plan ahead too much. My intention in the beginning of each piece is just to enjoy the process of playing with the paints or whatever I'm using. I find creating like this brings a sense of calmness and allows me the simple pleasure of exploring "a-ha!" moments, when things fall neatly in to place. It's fun. And sort of magical.

But it's not without bumps on the road. I often make 'mistakes' while creating. I'm all for 'happy accidents' too. I often find I have a little smile to myself. These are like little signposts: to take a breath; to not over-think it... It's just a layer.

If you look closely at my work, you will be able to pick out many coats of paint, various mediums and mark making. I imagine imprinting positive energy within each of these elements. I keep layering until 'something' catches my eye. It might be a particular colour, perhaps a line... Could be anything really. Then I work with that element. I use it as my starting point (the first of possibly many) and go from there.

In many of my paintings (but not all) I include a whimsical touch. I like drawing faces, and I often add these as a sort of collage; to give purpose to the piece. I'm also fond of using text (I adore positive affirmations) and then there's gold leaf and glitter. All things bright and shiny... My goals are to create something visually pleasing, that:

1. evokes an emotional reaction with the viewer; in sync with;
2. my own experience of creating it.
